Kristen F. Dawn, CST, ISP
Craniosacral & Somatic Practitioner
As someone who also navigates life in a healing body, I understand how challenging experiences and trauma can impact so many aspects of our lives. That's where craniosacral therapy and somatic practices come in!
Somatic Rewilding sessions: As a certified Integrative Somatic Practitioner, we’ll dive into practical, body-based tools that you can actually use in everyday life. I'll work within the Somatic Experiencing™ body-oriented approach to help trauma and other stress responses resolve.
Craniosacral: I’ll use the time-proven techniques masterfully taught by my kind and humble teachers; but, I’ll also weave a constellation of intuitive healing practices into your session.
The Riverways Studio
on the Farmington River in the historic Collins Axe Factory in Canton, CT
Note: the axe factory was built in 1826 and is a quirky, rustic space. If spaces with character [that aren't exactly elegant] are your jam, you'll love my studio.
To get to my office, you'll need to walk down a flight of old stairs. If stairs aren't an option for you, let me know and I'll give you directions to drive around.

Somatics: The Emotional Body

“I had a session with Kristen in the midst of motherhood with 'two under four' feeling generally stuck and overwhelmed. I didn't make the connection until a week after seeing her for craniosacral therapy, but there was an immense shift in me the following morning after our session. I was able to be more present and softer, which is something I'm really working on as a mom ... and, it's not easy. I feel the session with Kristen cleared up space for self-compassion, loving kindness in day-to-day interactions and an overall feeling of well-being."

Does craniosacral actually work?Is the water in a river wet? Hah! Many folks have experienced deep relaxation, profound healing, and immense relief from body symptoms. Some people have somatic releases of trauma, some people just fall asleep! In other words, it's different for everyone. But hey, it's your body. It'll know what to do. I'm just here to lead you to your body's healing power.

Is this a massage?Nope. Craniosacral is not a massage. You'll remain fully clothed and I will use gentle touch to guide your body tissues and energy to release blockages and allow your inner rivers to run wild and free again.

Will craniosacral help my freaking headaches/migraines/TMJ?A good amount of craniosacral clients have discovered just how healing this modality is for those all-consuming migraines and headaches. A large portion of the training I received is how to use hand placements to gently guide open the passageways in between the skull bones and various face bones. Sweet lord this includes the jaw for those TMJ sufferers!

What is a somatic release?A somatic release is a powerful way of processing trauma. We've all heard it said that the body keeps the score. The body and mind are very connected; therefore, simply talking about things that happened too fast, too soon, or too much may not be enough to release that from the body. People store the residue from difficult experiences in their body tissues. That holding shows up as pain, discomfort, stiffness, and a host of other symptoms. Your body wants to release this junk. Sometimes that looks like emotions coming out (grief, sorrow, anger, etc.) and sometimes it frees up as a person talks about an experience. My favorite way of releasing trauma is through imagery: YOU are super creative and your spirit may drum up some fascinating imagery as I guide you through a session.

What is Somatic Experiencing™?Somatic Experiencing™ (SE) is a body-centered approach to healing trauma and stress. It’s based on the idea that trauma isn’t just a mental experience—it can get "stuck" in our bodies too. SE helps people gently release this stored stress by focusing on physical sensations, like tightness or warmth, that might come up during a session. Instead of diving deep into memories or feelings, SE guides you to notice how your body responds in the present. This can help you feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to handle life’s challenges. People often find SE helpful for things like: - Overcoming trauma and stress - Managing anxiety and tension - Finding relief from chronic pain or fatigue In short, SE helps your body complete the natural healing process, bringing more ease and balance to both body and mind. Note: Kristen is a SE student.

What is intuitive craniosacral energy healing? All forms of craniosacral therapy involve energy healing; but, in this session, I'll weave in my extensive training in indigenous energy medicine at the Jaguar Path School of Shamanism. I'll use my gifts to connect to the exquisitely powerful source of healing, with your guides, and the spirit that moves through all things. During this session, I'll use craniosacral techniques as the foundation as I listen to what journey you want to embark on as we practice. I may sing, chant, and use singing bowls/feathers/crystals/rattles as I practice.

Do you accept insurance?Sadly, no. I dream of a world where insurance companies pay for holisitic care without batting an eye, but alas, we aren't quite there yet. So, Riverways accepts credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, and cold-hard cash. You'll get a receipt for the service, so please feel free to be a vigilante and submit it with your fingers crossed and my blessing!
Wonderful experience! Kristen made me feel deeply cared for and restored.
